Bio

Rafael Balbirsky, born in 1964 in Vilnius, Lithuania, and immigrating to Israel in 1971, began his artistic journey in the late 1980s. After graduating from Hamidrasha College in 1990, he held his first solo exhibition, "I Need Two Volunteers," at Hakibutz Gallery in 1998. His work has since evolved across various mediums, including video, sound, and performance art.

From 2002 to 2004, Rafael participated in the Foot Note Festival, showcasing his interest in pushing the boundaries of traditional performance. His work has been featured in significant events such as the Tel-Aviv Museum's "David Avidan – Media Prophet" in 2019. More recently, Rafael collaborated on the 2024 video and sound piece "Mountain of Fire" for the City Museum and performed "AKAVISHER" at the 2023 Musrara Mix Festival. His career reflects a steady and thoughtful exploration of artistic expression over the years.
